Mocha is a port city located in western Yemen, on the Red Sea coast. It is known for its production of coffee, which has been an important export for the city for centuries. According to tradition, coffee was first discovered in the region in the 9th century by a Sufi mystic named Muhammad ibn Said al-Dhabhani, who was said to have noticed the energizing effects of the coffee plant on goats.

The coffee produced in Mocha was highly sought after in Europe and the Middle East, and the city became a major centre of trade for coffee and other goods. The term "Mocha" came to be used as a shorthand for coffee in general, and is still used today to refer to a type of coffee with a distinctive flavour profile.

Despite its long history as a centre of coffee production, Mocha has faced numerous challenges in recent years. The city has been affected by conflict and political instability, and the coffee industry has struggled as a result. However, efforts are being made to revitalise the coffee industry in Mocha and support local farmers.
